Samuel Franklin Thompson, MD

Dr. Thompson is a fellowship-trained adult hip and knee replacement surgeon. He specializes in anterior hip replacement, partial and total knee replacement, and outpatient (same-day) joint replacement surgery. He also offers nonoperative treatment for a variety of hip and knee conditions.

Dr. Thompson is a Columbia native. He graduated from Rock Bridge High School and completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Missouri. He graduated from the University of Missouri School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Oklahoma in Oklahoma City. He then received advanced fellowship training in hip and knee reconstruction at the Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic in Alexandria, Virginia. This opportunity afforded him extensive surgical experience in muscle sparing anterior hip replacement, computer navigated surgery, partial and total knee replacement, and complex hip and knee revision surgery.

Committed to providing excellent patient care, Dr. Thompson enjoys getting to know his patients and is passionate about helping them return to an active lifestyle. Dr. Thompson lives in Columbia with his wife, Liza, and their young children. Apart from practicing orthopaedic surgery he enjoys spending time outdoors, especially playing golf and fly fishing.
