Fit For Delivery
What is Fit for Delivery?
Based on the latest research, Fit for Delivery is designed to provide you with comprehensive education to have a healthy pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum experience. The class will be taught by Boone’s highly specialized pelvic floor therapists, dietitians, and lactation consultants. The body goes through significant hormonal and structural changes during the pregnancy and postpartum time frame. This class will give you the tools you need to take care of your body so you are free to take care of the newest member of your family!
What will I learn?
Prenatal Exercise
Learn and practice safe ways to strengthen your body during pregnancy. Exercises will be provided at varying levels of intensity so you can choose what is right for you. You will practice proper core recruitment during pregnancy with guidance from a pelvic floor physical therapist. The focus of this session is to support a healthy pregnancy and decrease the likelihood of hip and low back pain.
Pelvic Floor and Bladder Health
Review tips and tricks to fight common pelvic floor problems during pregnancy such as urinary leakage and urinary urgency. You will learn general strategies to maintain and improve the health of your bladder and pelvic floor.
Prenatal Nutrition
Dive deeper into healthy nutrition during pregnancy. You will learn which foods provide the most nutritional benefit during pregnancy, as well as which foods should be avoided. This includes a special topic lecture for mothers who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
Labor and Delivery Strategies
Learn how positioning can influence ease of delivery and a variety of factors like pain, perineal tearing, postpartum hemorrhage, and length of labor. You will be shown lots of positioning options for each phase of labor to make your childbirth journey as smooth as possible. You will also learn labor preparation strategies like perineal massage and various breathing strategies for labor and pushing.
Breastfeeding Tips
Learn the basics of breastfeeding and discuss tips and tricks for common breastfeeding struggles. This provides troubleshooting latching issues, increasing supply, and how to care for your own breast health.
Postpartum Recovery
Learn strategies to ensure your pelvic floor and core heal as well as possible after childbirth. This includes suggested body mechanics while caring for your newborn, as well as a sample postpartum exercise program. For those who experience diastasis recti (commonly called ab split), you will learn strategies to heal your core. You will also be instructed in proper perineal care after a vaginal delivery and proper scar mobilization after a C-section.
How much does the class cost?
Enrollment for a single class is $150. Scholarships are available for anyone who requires financial assistance to participate. Email Monica.Collins@boone.health to receive information on obtaining a scholarship.
For this price, you will receive a binder filled with comprehensive materials covering all the topics above. You will also receive a Success Kit worth more than $100. It includes a variety of products for prenatal and postpartum care, including a Perimom Perineal Stretcher.
When is the class?
For the year of 2025, the class will take place on the following Saturdays:
- February 1st, 1 PM – 5 PM
- April 26th, 8 AM – 12 PM
- August 2nd, 8 AM – 12 PM
- October 25th, 8AM – 12 PM
