Designated Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center

Boone Health’s Harris Breast Center was recently designated as a Designated Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center by the American College of Radiology.  Achieving this recognition requires a facility to be accredited in multiple areas of breast cancer diagnostics, including mammography, stereotactic biopsy, breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy) and breast MRI.

The rigorous application process for accreditation evaluates a hospital’s equipment, procedures, patient safety, image quality, and the experience and education of the department’s technologists and radiologists. Hospitals must meet or exceed the ACR’s standards and reapply for accreditation every 3 years.

According to Dr. Terry Elwing, lead  breast imaging specialist at Boone Health’s Harris Breast Center,  “The ACR gold seal of accreditation, represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety.  Achieving Designated Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center status shows the level of commitment that Boone Health has to fighting breast disease”

As an official Designated Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center, Boone Health offers patients a full spectrum of breast cancer screening and diagnostic services in a state-of-the-art facility.  The quality of imaging and the expert abilities of Boone’s Radiologists who specialize in breast imaging will ensure that patients receive the clearest and most accurate information possible to help detect breast cancer.  This allows for appropriate treatment to begin as soon as possible- greatly increasing the chance of long-term survival.
