Certified Hand Therapy

Boone Health’s Occupational Therapists are recognized to have specialty training and Certification in Hand Therapy (CHT). They are required to pass a rigorous examination and continue with education to provide the most current treatment advancements for upper extremity conditions. They must recertify every 5 years to continue to use the designation of CHT.

Certified Hand Therapists work closely with physicians and surgeons to ensure the best outcomes for their patients. They frequently fabricate splints to protect and position hand injuries. Modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation and paraffin are commonly used. Scar management, stretching and strengthening as well as consideration for improvement in Activities of Daily Living are incorporated into treatment.

Common types of conditions that can benefit from a Certified Hand Therapist include:

  • Fractures of the hand, wrist, elbow and humerus
  • Surgeries to the hand and arm including carpal tunnel, trigger finger, thumb joint surgery, tendon and nerve lacerations.
  • Pain in the hand, wrist and elbow including tendonitis such as tennis elbow or golfers elbow
  • Pain in hands due to osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and chemotherapy
